U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq: graphed

Every day that passes more U.S. soldiers are killed in Iraq and lately I’ve been wanting to see a graph for the past 10 months. It’s one thing to hear how many have died in an attack or how many have died thus far. I wanted to see more of the picture and this is what I found: U.S. Military Deaths in the Conquest of Iraq.

What the graph shows is that the number of soldiers dying is fairly constant since George’s 7/2/03 “Bring’em on!” statement. There’s a sharp increase just after 10/27/03 which levels out to its previous rate in mid November. Saddam was found on 12/13/03 and there is little change after that. The graph was last updated on 1/25/04 with 512 deaths. there have been several since then.

Iraq’s losses
Depending on where you look the estimates vary but it seems that probably between 7,000 and 9,000 have died, many of them civilians.

It is a sad loss of life and it should not be happening.

Freedom, democracy, and justice are illusions in this world.
