Heating with wood

Three years ago we put in a small wood burning stove at deCleyre. We’ve used it a good bit but it’s probably provided less than 20% of our heat.

We’ve often talked about installing another stove in a more used part of the house. Last winter our ancient gas heater broke… for good. Being the freaks that we are we endured the majority of the winter with no heat. Starting in the spring of 03 we began gathering large amounts of wood and planning for the installation of the second stove.

In October we obtained a stove that had been sitting outside for a long, long time. Casey and others removed the thick layers of rust and brought it back to a very good condition. Initially we planned to have someone install it for us but after further discussion decided to try doing it ourselves. First we installed the tile floor. Yesterday we finished the job which consisted of installing stove pipe in our existing chimney and attaching the stove to the new pipe in the chimney.

Last night we burned our first fire in the new stove! Check out the photo album!
