Dying in Iraq

Now we have seen more soldiers die in Iraq since the monkeyboy declared the end of "major combat": 139 dead.

Mithras over at Fables of the reconstruction writes about Iraqi civilian deaths:

This neglects the reported 6,113 Iraqi civilian deaths and 20,000 injured so far, and the 2,320 Iraqi military personnel killed in the war around Baghdad alone. Iraq's population is 24,683,313.

In terms of civilian casualties alone, the equivalent would be if someone were to invade the United States, and kill 71,905 people and injure 235,254 because they didn't like George W. Bush. No wonder they love us so much.

I had not thought of the ratios. I am so thoroughly disgusted. It's not just the monkeyboy and his administration, but the citizens of this country have allowed themselves to become so apathetic, so passive that "their" country is no longer theirs. And we've given up hope for anything other than the lesser evil. Fuck the republicans, democrats, and even the greens. It's not about electing some politico to office. It's about being an active, engaged citizen every day.

"Freedom is something you assume. Then wait for someone to try and take it away from you. The degree to which you resist is the degree that you are free." Utah Phillips quoting some other fella.

It's time we remember the importance of struggle and resistance.
