Industrial battery recycling plant in nearby Fredericktown just burned down

a map showing a various color coded elongated ovals each of which represent the intensity of a toxic plum that spread several miles north of an industrial fire

A follow-up on my post yesterday about the fire at the battery recycling plant. The building was a total loss. The plant was in operation for less than a year, so, not a good start.

Of course, an attorney for the company was quick to claim the company protected the workers and community:

Al Watkins is the attorney representing the fire-damaged Critical Mine Recovery plant. He says the facility took extensive measures to protect the employees and community. He says these measures worked because there were no injuries from Wednesday’s fire.

It seems premature to claim there were no injuries as that ignores the fact that a very toxic plume of smoke blew northward for several hours. How many people were exposed in those 6 square miles? Regardless of that, like any such industrial accident involving toxic emissions, we'll never know the full effects on wildlife. It's just yet another dumping of toxicity into ecosystems that will be forgotten.
