The Union of Concerned Scientists have issued a new report: Smoke, Mirrors & Hot Air. According to the report, ExxonMobil has adopted the tobacco industry’s disinformation tactics and even some of the same organizations to muddy the scientific understanding of climate change and delay action. Not at all surprising to anyone that’s been paying attention.
A link to a pdf of the report can be found here.

Hey Denny,
A friend of mine forwarded this to me the other day. It’s pretty ridiculous. Just for fun, I’ve started looking at the major oil companies websites. Each one has some kind of environmental policy that is full of empty rhetoric and logical fallacies. It’s a good exercise in recognizing bullshit.
BTW, culturaldissent is no more. I’ve moved to a new site: http://www.undertheconcrete.org
I did this for many reasons, all of which I explain there. Cheers.
hey kyle,
thanks… i’ll change my link to you. checking your site now… looks great, excellent name too.
Denny, I’m sorry this doesn’t have anything to do specifically with this post. I’m looking for an article and I think I read it here but I can’t remember. This is regarding Al Gore’s film. I remember reading that if everyone followed Gore’s solutions to cut carbon emissions, this would reduce emisisons by 20-some-odd-percent, while if any meaningful change is to occur, emissions must be cut by 76%. Do you have any idea what I’m talking about or where I can find this article? The basic premise is that Al Gore’s “solutions” are Inadequate at best.
Thanks.
